Amanda Wasielewski (born October 11, 1984) is an American artist living and working in Amsterdam, NL. She is currently in residence at De Ateliers for two years. Wasielewski came to London as a study abroad student at Goldsmiths College from 2005-2006 and returned to the US the following year to finish her BA in Art History and Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) and graduated in June 2007. After graduating she moved back to London. In September 2008, she started her MA in Fine Art Media at University College London, Slade School of Art and completed her studies in September 2010. Recent honors include being shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011 and nominated for the Workspace 11 commission at Filmhuis in Den Haag. Past honors include selection of Supervision: Wawina, MN for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2009 exhibition and receiving the Chelsea Arts Club Special Projects Award. Most of Wasielewski's recent work revolves around the connections between technology and community in relation to an increasingly globalized world. Other interests include: maps and mapping, global capitalism, free trade and its effects on the global South, public housing/transportation/health care, and the history of technological hacking.
