Invisible Poetry (2007)

invisible
As a result of my interest in network names (SSIDs), I wanted to create invisible poetry/sculptures of my own using wireless routers. Conceived as a gallery installation, this piece consisted of six wireless routers which were positioned out of sight from gallery visitors. These routers broadcast changing network name themes which I had taken from the information gathered in the Wireless Chicago project. I had noticed during this project that people often named their networks around certain themes such as keeping people off their secured network (“Hands Off”) or spiritual/religious names (“Jesus” or “Ethereal”). These broadcasts were able to supersede the gallery as well and ooze out into the world beyond, thereby existing in both the gallery space and the real world simultaneously.
